Darwin injured, Roff out of All Blacks match

The Wallabies had a setback ahead of their July 26 Bledisloe Cup rugby international against New Zealand with tight-head prop Ben Darwin injuring a knee in training.

Darwin was to have a scan to assess the extent of the injury suffered at the training camp in the team’s Coffs Harbour training base in northern New South Wales.

Scan results on Thursday confirmed that winger Joe Roff will miss the match with the All Blacks in Sydney because of rib damage suffered in last Saturday’s Tri-Nations loss to South Africa in Cape Town.

Lote Tuqiri, who was cleared by a tribunal on Wednesday on a yellow card he received from the Cape Town game, is favoured to be Roff’s replacement, earning his first starting role after coming off the bench in previous Tests this season.

However, Wallaby coach Eddie Jones has indicated axed fullback Chris Latham will also be considered. – Sapa-AFP
