England were bowled out for 408 in reply to South Africa’s first innings 594 for five declared, a deficit of 186, on the fifth day of the first Test at Edgbaston here Monday.
England’s total meant they avoided being made to follow-on by South Africa after reaching their safety target of 395. Ashley Giles made 41 before he was last man out. James Anderson was nought not out.
