Honda South Africa’s Motorcycle Division has set its sights on a larger portion of the growing All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) market in this country, and to mark the occasion invited a number of motoring journalists to play with some of their products at a quarry near Hartebeespoort Dam.
Newest in the lineup is the sports-oriented Honda TRX 300 EX, which at around R37 000 offers very good value as a sports quad for the average rider. An electric starter and reverse gear make it very user friendly, and the long travel suspension soaks up most potholes and humps very efficiently. It’s not as brutal as the Yamaha YZF 450 we rode a few weeks ago, but for the average rider that’s a good thing, and the R30 000 or so saving will probably come in handy in the household budget.
With quads making up over a third of “motorcycle” sales in this country it’s easy to see why the importers are all pushing so hard for market share. The Honda TRX 300 EX pricing and performance make it a worthy option for those who wish to experience a lively machine at a reasonable price.
