Former trade unionist appointed Nedlac chief

South African Minister of Labour Membathisi Mdladlana has appointed former trade unionist and business leader Herbert Mkhize as the new executive director of the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac), the government announced on Friday.

“I believe we have chosen the strongest candidate for the position and Herbert Mkhize will make a considerable contribution to the future success of this institution,” said Mdladlana.

“His experience in the South African Commercial Catering and Allied Workers Union (Saccawu) and at Old Mutual will prove to be invaluable in developing and advancing social dialogue in South Africa,” the Mdladlana said.

“Mr Mkhize will build on the excellent work performed by the previous two incumbents, Phillip Dexter and Jayendra Naidoo,” the Minister added.

Mkhize will assume duties as the executive director of Nedlac as from September 15, 2003. ‒ I-Net Bridge
