In Spain, Valencia beat Real Madrid 2-0 to overtake the defending champions and move into sole possession of first place.
Manchester United trounced Leicester 4-1 and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s lone strike helped Chelsea beat Aston Villa 1-0.
Roy Keane gave the Red Devils an early lead but Frank Sinclair replied, stopping goalkeeper Tim Howard from posting a fourth league and cup shutout in a row.
At Stamford Bridge, Hasselbaink prodded the ball home after Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen failed to hold a shot from Frank Lampard.
On Friday, Thierry Henry scored two and Gilberto Silva got the other as Arsenal topped Newcastle 3-2. Laurent Robert and Olivier Bernard scored for Newcastle.
Andriy Shevchenko scored twice as AC Milan topped Lecce 3-0 while Marco Di Vaio and Pavel Nedved led defending champion Juventus over Reggina 2-0.

England
Birmingham stayed unbeaten through six games by downing promoted Portsmouth 2-0 while Manchester City was held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Tottenham. Stephen Clemence and Stan Lazaridis scored for Birmingham.
Arsenal is first in the league with 17 points, one more than Chelsea and Manchester United. Birmingham is fourth with 14 points, followed by Manchester City and Southampton with 12.
Italy
Parma and Inter, which were both held to draws, are in fourth place in Italy with eight points. Parma drew 1-1 with Siena while Inter Milan drew 0-0 with Udinese.
Lazio could have taken over fourth place, but the Roman team was held to a 2-2 draw at Empoli.
Spain
Deportivo de La Coruna lost its 100 percent record this season after falling at Osasuna 3-2.
Deportivo, which had only conceded one goal this season, never recovered from a devastating spell in which Osasuna netted three times in five minutes.
Patxi Punal and Ivan Rosado got the first two, and Hector Berenguel then scored an own-goal in the 26th. Alberto Luque and scoring leader Walter Pandiani struck back for Deportivo.
FC Barcelona was held to a 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid.
Valencia has 13 points, one more than Deportivo at the top of the standings. Madrid stays on 10 points, above fourth-place Osasuna on goal difference.
Germany
High-flying VfB Stuttgart remained unscored upon, staying atop the Bundesliga by blasting 1860 Munich 3-0.
The league’s youngest team, still surprising the German league with its success, ran its Bundesliga record to seven matches without yielding a goal this season.
Werder Bremen stayed in second place by thrashing Cologne 4-1 and Leverkusen showed poise in a 1-0 win against Wolfsburg.
Defending champion Bayern Munich needed an 86th-minute strike from Roy Makaay to edge Hansa Rostock 2-1 and stay fourth.
Stuttgart leads the standings with 17 points, followed by Bremen and Leverkusen with 16 each. Bayern is next with 14 points.
The Netherlands
Ajax took over the top spot in the Dutch league after thrashing Willem II Tilburg 6-0 while defending champion PSV Eindhoven lost its first match of the season, falling to AZ Alkmaar 1-0.
Ajax got goals from six different people, including Wesley Sonck and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Robin Nelisse scored the winner against PSV.
Feyenoord climbed to sixth place after beating FC Twente Enschede 3-0.
Ajax leads with 15 points, two more than both PSV and AZ Alkmaar.
Scotland
Henrik Larsson helped Celtic come from behind to beat Hibernian 2-1 in the Scottish Premier League while Rangers needed two goals in the last four minutes to maintain its 100% record. Rangers, which beat Dundee 3-1 with two goals from Shota Arveladze, leads the league with 21 points. Celtic is next with 19 points, followed by Hearts with 13.
Greece
Panathinaikos got late goals from Goran Vlaovic and Michalis Constantinou to stay in front in the Greek league by topping Ionikos 2-0 while Olympiakos kept pace by downing Xanthi 3-1.
Predrag Djordjevic scored two penalties for defending champion Olympiakos.
AEK Athens lost ground on the top two after being held to a 2-2 draw by Panionios. Grigoris Georgatos scored both goals for AEK.
Panathinaikos has 13 points at the top of the standings, with Olympiakos next one point behind.
France
Monaco crushed struggling Toulouse 3-0 to stay top of the French first division, one point ahead of rival Marseille, which needed an injury-time penalty to beat Nice 2-1.
Emmanuel Adebayor, Edouard Cisse and Dado Prso scored for Monaco while Didier Drogba scored both for Marseille.
Monaco leads the league with 19 points, followed by Marseille with 18.
Portugal
FC Porto fought back from a goal down to beat Guimaraes 2-1 while Benfica got a goal from Tiago to beat Nacional.
Derlei and Costinha scored for defending champion Porto, which leads the Portuguese Super Liga with 16 points.
