Sundowns registered their first league victory of the season after six starts by narrowly beating Manning Rangers 1-0 at Odi Stadium in Mabopane on Sunday.
The half-time score was 0-0.
Sundowns, who looked more purposeful, unlike in their previous games, ensured the vital three points through a well-taken goal by Zambian striker Rotson Kilembe who seems to be settling more and more after every game.
Kilembe’s winner was a delightful 20m strike that gave Rangers goalkeeper Chad Hurper no chance.
Two minutes into the second half, a Sundowns player sent a defence-splitting pass from the centre circle and Kilembe met it with a first-time strike.
In the closing stages of the game, Rangers pushed forward in numbers in search of the equaliser, but Andre Arendse in goal for Sundowns was not going to let the visitors spoil their deserved lead. — Sapa
