Treasury job’s R700 000 package

The job to be vacated at the end of the month by South African National Treasury director general Maria Ramos is being advertised with a package of R738 993 a year.

The advertisements in national newspapers stated that one of the requirements for the job is a post-graduate degree (Masters) in economics, public finance and financial management. Extensive experience in public finance and fiscal planning and strong leadership ability is sought.

The new DG should also have a good knowledge of economic theory and comprehensive understanding of the South African global economic environment and “a thorough understanding” of macro economics, public finance and international finance. He or she should also have a thorough knowledge of budget systems and government accounting methods.

In addition he or she should have a good knowledge of private and public sectors, including the parastatals.

The post is available on a five-year contract basis and the new DG must be a South African citizen.

Public Enterprises Minister Jeff Radebe announced in September that Ramos will take over as the new Transnet chief executive from January next year. She will, however, cross to Transnet next month to begin the handover by outgoing CE Mafika Mkhwanazi. At the time of the announcement, Finance Minister Trevor Manuel appealed to journalists not to speculate about a possible successful candidate for the Treasury post. – I-Net Bridge
