Banyana Banyana massacred Namibia 13-0 in the first leg of the Olympic qualifier match played at Caledonian Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday.
The hosts took full advantage of Namibia’s inexperience to put themselves in a good position when they travel to their neighbours in the second round.
Though the hosts missed numerous scoring chances early in the first half, they recovered as the game gained momentum to hammer the visitors mercilessly.
Banyana Banyana’s deserved victory was largely influenced by strikers Veronica Phewa and Jo-Anne Solomon, who kissed the back of the net three times in the afternoon.
However, Phewa and Solomon were not the only contributors to the scoresheet as Mpumi Nyandeni and Lydia Monyapao each scored a brace while Antonio Carelse, Jubulile Baloyi and Portia Modise scored a goal apiece. — Sapa
