Chiefs retain unbeaten record

Kaiser Chiefs retained their unbeaten record by beating a determined Jomo Cosmos 1-0 in their hard-fought Premier Soccer League game at the FNB Stadium on Saturday. Chiefs led 1-0 at the break with midfielder Arthur Zwane, who was laid on by another midfielder, Tinashe Nengomasha, scoring just before the whistle.

Zwane struck a lightning shot, giving Cosmos goalkeeper Avril Phali no chance.

As early as the 13th minute, Chiefs striker Patrick Mayo’s shot hit the upright and the Cosmos goalkeeper parried it for a corner.

Chiefs’ Jabu Pule tried his luck in the 29th minute, followed by Mayo’s in the 31st minute but the on-form Cosmos goalkeeper saved.

Referee Petros Mathabela booked Cosmos’ Clinton Sephadi and Andrew Rabutla and Chiefs’ Sibusiso Dlamini for misbehaving.

Chiefs striker Mayo had a golden opportunity to score Chiefs’ second goal in the 82nd minute with only the goalkeeper to beat but instead hesitated until Cosmos defenders cleared the ball.

Chiefs are now at the top of the PSL log with 17 points from seven games, while Cosmos remain in seventh position with only eight points. — Sapa
