SA Transport and Allied Workers Union members were continuing with a strike on Monday while the Airports Company of SA and union representatives were in a meeting with the purpose of resolving the wage dispute.
Satawu spokesperson Evan Abrahamse said the meeting started at 10am and Acsa made a new offer.
”I cannot say much about the new offer but I know both parties are discussing it,” he said.
Wage negotiations deadlocked earlier in October after mediation over salary increases failed. Acsa offered a 7,5% increase and a minimum salary of R3 225 while the union demanded a 10% increase and a minimum salary of R3 300.
Abrahamse said the union was satisfied with the strike turnout and the support was as high as last week.
He threatened that if negotiators did not reach a settlement by the end of the week, ”we will mobilise other members from related industry to support us”.
He said members were picketing at major international airports around the country.
Acsa spokesperson Solomon Makgale said the negotiators were still in a meeting with the view to solving the dispute.
”The aim is to solve the dispute and we want this matter to be resolved as soon as possible.”
He could not confirm whether Acsa had put a new wage proposal before the union.
