Downs draw against Leopards

Sundowns drew 1-1 with Black Leopards in a Castle Premiership match at Odi Stadium on Sunday.

Leopards scored first in the 11th minute through Christopher Netshishivhe. His thunderous long-range shot outside the penalty box left goalkeeper Andre Arendse perplexed.

In fact Arendse had just brilliantly thwarted Nhlanhla Mathebula’s goal from the same spot.

Manqoba Ngwenya watched in disbelief when his goal-bound attempt went hissing over the top with Leopards ‘keeper Walter Khumalo a beaten man just before the break.

Downs improved their game in the second half and it came as no surprise when they levelled matters. Hareipha Marumo nodded home a beauty in the 50th minute.

Daniel Mudau, who came as a late substitute, fed Marumo with a defence-splitting pass and the nippy striker, who did no see much of the action in the first stanza, converted.

Downs, the hosts, pushed hard for the winner in the later stages but Khumalo stood his ground in the goal denying them victory. — Sapa
