Unlucky 13 for Wits

Wits found their 13th game unlucky as they lost their unbeaten Castle Premier League record when they went down to Santos by a single goal scored in the first half.

Wits were unlucky as they were by the far the better side in the second half but could just not find the net.

In the 11th minute Fees Moloi’s powerful shot hit Neil Winstanley’s hand and referee Ronney Marhule did not hesitate to award a penalty.

After fierce remonstrations by Wits, their skipper, Charles Yohane, was booked but the penalty was enough to see Santos home as Musa Ongao sent Wayne Roberts the wrong way.

The home side should have doubled the score when Jean-Marc Ithier broke down the left and with only Roberts to beat, kicked wide.

Wits came out fighting in the second half and in the 49th minute were unlucky when Yohane’s header just went past the far upright. Ironically, Yohane repeated the same shot in the 83rd minute.

Wits had to admit it was just was not their night when in the 74th minute Santos goalkeeper Brenden Wardle came out and miscued the ball. It came straight back towards the Santos goal and Wardle got there just in time to clear his own shot off the goalline. — Sapa
