‘Super criminal’ caught in Johannesburg

A 23-year-old man sought for at least 44 counts of armed robbery and murder was arrested in Boksburg in the East Rand on Friday, police reported.

Sergeant Zithini Dlamini said police received information about the man’s whereabouts at about 3pm and set out to apprehend him. The suspect and another man were seen in a blue BMW on Atchie Eunig Street in Reiger Park in Boksburg.

When the man saw the police he allegedly pointed his firearm at them and sped away. Police gave chase and the man apparently lost control of the vehicle, crashing it into a tree.

The passenger, who is in his early twenties, ran away. He is also wanted for armed robbery and murder.

The 23-year-old man was arrested and an unlicensed firearm was confiscated from him. The BMW, which belonged to the man who fled away, was also seized.

Dlamini said the suspect escaped from custody in Boksburg in July after he appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on armed robbery and murder charges.

He would appear in court again on Monday, she said. — Sapa
