Dolphins get wet

Both the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins and the Free State Eagles remain winless in the Standard Bank Cup as rain hit Bloemfontein, marring their bottom of the log clash on Wednesday.

The Dolphins have once again been hit hard by inclement weather with this, their fourth match to be declared a no-result, and their fifth dogged by rain.

The no-result means that both the Eagles and the Dolphins share three points apiece and after six matches in the competition neither team has a result in the win column.

The match started three hours late on Wednesday with the Dolphins winning the toss and electing to bat. Then the heavens opened.

The match was then reduced to a 36 over contest and the Eagles made brilliant use of the conditions to have the Dolphins reeling at 56 for four. Then Hashim Amla (59 not out) and Jon Kent (23 not out) steadied the ship to leave the visitors on 110 for four after 29 overs before the rain set in.

The pick of the Eagles bowlers was Cliffie Deacon, who removed both of the openers cheaply. – Sapa
