Jo’burg wall collapse kills three

The death toll in the building collapse at a construction site in Crown Mines, Johannesburg, has risen to three after the body of a missing man was found on Sunday morning, the city’s emergency services said.

Two people were killed instantly and two were seriously injured after a wall collapsed at the site at about 8am on Sunday morning.

Emergency services spokesperson Malcolm Midgeley said police search and rescue dogs found the missing man’s body under the rubble.

Some modifications had to be made to the building behind the Nedcor building in Crown Mines. The construction workers apparently pulled out a few bricks to make the modifications when the wall as well as a section of another wall collapsed.

The injured men were taken to the Garden City clinic for treatment.

Midgeley said several new factories are being built in the Crown Mines area. — Sapa
