Lamontville Golden Arrows added woes to the struggling Jomo Cosmos when they beat the Johannesburg side 1-0 in a Castle Premiership match at Kings Park Soccer Stadium on Saturday.
Thiyekile ”Ace” Gulwa scored the all-important goal for the home team in the 12th minute.
Gulwa converted a cross which was perfectly sent in by Lucky Sibeko, who combined well with star striker Mabhuti Khanyeza in the front.
Abafana Bes’Thende, as Arrows is affectionately known, bagged three full points. It was their fourth win from 16 games while Cosmos suffered its seventh loss after 16 outings.
The visiting side from Johannesburg fought back gallantly in search for the equaliser but were thwarted by an uncompromising Arrows goalie Davis Phiri.
He denied Andrew Rabutla a deserved goal in the 40th minute. But the latter did not finish the game.
He collided with Russel Mwafulirwa and was replaced by Francis Chansa in the 82nd minute.
Papi Zothwane was voted Man of the match. – Sapa
