Peugeot’s sporty little numbers

Peugeot has long been involved with sports events around the world, with the French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros being the most famous example. The company’s now raising awareness of its involvement with the French Open and the international Rencontres Peugeot Roland Garros tournament for amateurs by introducing the Peugeot 206 5-door 1.6 Roland Garros and the 206 CC Roland Garros.

The more affordable of the pair is based on the 206 5-door XT 1.6, with all the bells ‘n whistles of that model plus a few extra. These include automatic climate control, automatic rain-sensing windscreen wipers and automatic activation of the headlights. Power is still derived from the tried and tested 1.6-litre petrol engine which delivers 80kW of power at 5 800 rpm and maximum torque of 147Nm at a reasonably low 4 000 rpm. To make it more distinctive, the 206 Roland Garros has a panoramic glass roof and two-tone leather and cloth seats, while the bodywork bears the Roland Garros logo on the sides and rear. The Peugeot 206 1,6 RG will retail at R147 900, just R4 500 more than the 206 XT 1.6.

Buyers with thicker wallets might prefer to splash out on the Roland Garros edition of the ever-popular 206 CC. This version of the CC will attract even more attention than before thanks to its striking two-tone leather interior and the Roland Garros branding. Price? R240 400, compared with the R237 900 of the standard two litre Peugeot 206CC.

Limited numbers of the 206 Roland Garros models will be available at Peugeot’s outlets across South Africa. The cars come with Peugeot’s new extended warranty of 3 years / 100 000km’s.
