Defending champion Rossouw Loubscher of the Services Club in North Gauteng has successfully defended his Vodacom KwaZulu Natal 72 holes strokeplay golf championship title at the San Lameer Estate course on Sunday.
Loubscher carded eight birdies in a blemish-free third round 64, followed by a final round of 67.
Loubscher had a 72 holes total of 275 to leave second placed Stephen Swaneoel of Victoria Country Club in Pietermaritzburg, trailing in his wake by seven.
Beginning Sunday morning’s third round four behind after the first 36 holes, Loubsher managed to gain an 11-shot third round swing. This made a mockery of the par 72 rating for the course on a sunny final day with his stunning round 64.
He turned five under and completed the second nine in three under. Then with his five under final round 67 in the afternoon, it meant he had played the last 36 holes on in 13 under.
Jon Cambell of Kloof Country Club fired a final round of 68 for third place on 285.
Ludwig Schud of North West, who shared second place at the end of the third round had a disaster laden final run of 84 and several other top players including Ryan Tipping of Central Gauteng and Francois Olivier of Western Province also returned scores in the 80 plus bracket. – Sapa
