Mafikizolo singer gunned down

Top Mafikizolo band singer Tebogo Benedict Madingoane was shot dead in a Soweto roadrage incident early on Saturday and police have arrested a man.

Madingoane (32), who was one of the lead singers for the popular kwaito group, was shot dead next to a Caltex garage at Zone 3 in Diepkloof, police Superintendent Richard Luvhengo said.

He said Madingoane, who was driving a Volkswagen Polo Player, was certified dead on arrival at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital. He was with his girlfriend in the car.

The incident started at the intersection of Klipvalley Road and the Soweto highway at about 12.55am when another vehicle drove through a red light and disturbed Madingoane.

Luvhengo said the vehicles carried on until they reached the Caltex garage along the Soweto highway where Madingoane was shot at.

The arrested man reported the incident to the police and he is expected to appear in court on Monday, Luvhengo said.

Mafikizolo is known for hit songs such as Sibongile, Ndihamba Nawe, Kwela and Udakwa Njalo.
