A memorandum of understanding outlining cooperation around black economic empowerment and unity among the business community was signed between Eskom and the National Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industries (Nafcoc) in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
In terms of the memorandum, the power utility will cooperate with Nafcoc in certain business areas to promote business development and opportunities for small and medium enterprises and black-owned enterprises.
The memorandum indicates that Eskom, as well as other business organisations, will provide Nafcoc with information on its procurement database.
Currently, Eskom procures goods and services worth more than R5-billion a year from black economic empowerment companies.
”Eskom is committed to supporting the formation of a unified body within the business community,” said Eskom Holdings chief executive Thulane Gcabashe at the signing ceremony.
