Dolphins battle in Durban

The KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins battled against an accurate North West Dragons bowling attack and the elements on the second day of the Supersport Series Super Six cricket match at Kingsmead on Friday.

When play was finally called off at 4.30pm, the Dolphins were on 159 for four wickets in reply to the Dragons first innings total of 255.

Continuing from their overnight 3/0 the Dolphins lost the wicket of Rivash Gobind without adding to the score on the seventh ball of the day. Doug Watson and Hashim Amla then added 75 for the second wicket before Watson was caught in the slips by Davey Jacobs off the bowling of Garth Roe.

Ahmed Amla then joined his younger brother Hashim and they took the score to 95 for two at lunch.

The Dragons struck quickly after lunch, claiming the wickets of Hashim Amla (46) and Dale Benkenstein (0) in successive deliveries just three overs into the session.

That left the Dolphins struggling on 97 for four. Jon Kent joined Ahmed Amla, adding 62 in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand before the second rain break took the players off to an early tea.

Garth Roe was the Dragons’ most successful bowler, claiming three wickets for 35 in 18 overs.

Weather permitting the match will continue at 9am on Saturday. — Sapa
