Titans and Strikers battle to a draw

Justin Kemp collected the man of the match award and there were two debut half-centuries at SuperSport Park on Monday as Northerns Nashua Titans and Gauteng’s Highveld Strikers battled their way to an inevitable draw in their SuperSport Series Shield game.

But despite a couple of bold declarations by opposing captains Gerald Dros of the Titans and HD Ackerman, neither side could make up for the time lost due to two rained-out days.

However, Titans won the bonus points battle taking 4,38 out of the game to the Strikers’ 3,38 points.

The debutant half-centuries came from Titans’ Maurice Aronstam with 63 as the home side scored 219/5 declared to take a first-innings lead of 25 runs. Vaughan van Jaarsveld was undefeated with 53 in the Strikers’ second innings of 109/4.

Kemp scored an attacking 71 not out, which included three big sixes off Derek Crookes, and collected two wickets in the Strikers’ first innings of 194/5 declared. — Sapa
