A 16-year-old Palestinian from the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya died on Monday of wounds sustained on Saturday when he was shot by Israeli soldiers after entering a military zone, Palestinian hospital officials said.
The Israeli army meanwhile raided several areas in the Gaza Strip before dawn on Monday and carried out widespread demolitions, destroying at least 24 houses, Palestinians said.
The homes were razed in the al-Hadaf area, in the central Gaza Strip not far from the scene of the shooting attack on Sunday in which Palestinian gunmen killed an Israeli settler and four of her children.
Additional reports from the area also said the Israeli army was simultaneously demolishing Palestinian houses in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, which lies on the border with Egypt and is the scene of regular fighting between Israelis and Palestinians.
Palestinian security sources added that a large number of Israeli troops and military vehicles stormed an area near the Jewish settlement of Netzarim and razed vast areas of Palestinian-owned lands.
In addition, the army continued closing military roadblocks south of Gaza city and in the centre of the Gaza Strip for the second consecutive day, barring hundreds of thousands of Palestinians access to their workplaces and schools. — Sapa-DPA
