Durban kidnap victim home after ordeal

Kidnap victim Jameel Pandor is back at his parents’ Durban home after being treated in hospital following his release, his father said on Friday.

”He’s out of hospital. He’s doing quite well,” said Jakes Pandor.

Pandor senior, a wealthy businessman, said his son had been kept blindfolded and handcuffed throughout his ordeal, but had otherwise been treated quite well.

”He wasn’t harmed. They didn’t beat him or anything,” he said.

Pandor confirmed that no ransom had been paid.

Earlier, police spokesperson Superintendent Vish Naidoo said the 23-year-old kidnap victim was dropped off in West Street on Thursday night and that two men had been arrested.

Pandor was heavily sedated when found and unable to communicate coherently.

Naidoo said detectives had not slept since Pandor was kidnapped from the car dealership he runs in West Street, Durban, on Wednesday. Police had tracked him to various locations as he was kept on the move by his abductors.

Information about the arrested men was still sketchy. One was arrested at another car dealership in West Street and the second ”almost immediately afterwards” in Chatsworth.

”We can’t rule out the possibility of more arrests. Investigations are far from over, there are many unanswered questions,” Naidoo said.

The two men, aged in their late twenties or early thirties, would not appear in court before Monday, Naidoo said. — Sapa
