Swallows, Hellenic play to draw

Moroka Swallows and relegation candidates Hellenic played to a 1-1 draw in their Premier Soccer League (PSL) game at PAM Brink Stadium in Springs on Sunday.

Both teams scored in the first half.

Swallows opened the score when captain Goodman Mazibuko hit home with a header from a corner kick by Peter Lekone in the 17th minute.

Just as everyone was sure that Swallows would hold their lead, Hellenic defender Sipho Ndzuzo rose high above the Swallows defenders to score the equaliser with his head at the stroke of half-time.

It was a nice cross pass from midfielderr Tshepo Masilela and Ndzuzo beat Swallows goalkeeper Grec Etasia at the far-left corner.

Morne Daniel gave Hellenic striker Masixole May a red card in the 74th minute for a second bookable offence. May received his first yellow in the 40th minute because of misbehaving when he roughed up a player.

Swallows came back strongly in the second half searching for a winning goal, but they were let down by strikers Shaun Termall and Dennis Lota.

Hellenic, from 27 games, are left with three games with only 16 points and are still at the bottom of the log. Swallows, from 28 games, are seventh on the log with 35 points and left with two games to finish the PSL. — Sapa
