Three in critical condition after Jo’burg fire

The manager and two waitresses of a restaurant in Johannesburg’s Cresta shopping centre were seriously injured following a fire on Friday morning, Johannesburg emergency services reported.

Spokesperson Malcolm Midgley said the fire apparently broke out at the Beef and Lobster Company, situated on the ground floor, at about 4.30am.

”The three employees sustained serious burns and are suffering from smoke inhalations. One waitress suffered cuts on her hands after trying to break out of a window.”

Midgley said the three were rescued by firefighters and that the restaurant was badly damaged.

The three were taken to the Milpark hospital in Johannesburg where their condition was described by hospital spokesperson Monique Lanz as ”critical”. — Sapa
