Fernando Alonso blasted Ralf Schumacher in Monaco on Sunday after the Williams driver sent him crashing out of the Monaco Grand Prix and called for him to be stripped of his licence.
Renault’s Alonso had looked set to secure a dream result for the French team with second place behind teammate Jarno Trulli, but he retired after crashing into the wall in the tunnel.
He lapped Schumacher’s ailing Williams at the start of the tunnel but was pushed wide when the German accelerated again and was left furious as he walked away unhurt from the incident.
”I was lapping Ralf, and he ignored the blue flags for the first seven corners,” Alonso said.
”He slowed down to let me by at the entrance to the tunnel, then got back on the throttle and pushed me wide.
”There’s no grip on the outside there, and I lost control. It’s extremely frustrating, and cost us a one-two finish.”
He added: ”Most of the accidents [now] Ralf is involved in. It was a very high-speed accident but Ralf likes that.
”I don’t want to waste my time [talking to him], I’ve got more important things to do.”
Alonso called for Schumacher, who was found guilty of an incident when tangling with Takuma Sato in Bahrain, to be stripped of his racing licence.
”I hope they investigate the accident and they take his licence for three or four races,” Alonso added. ”To race with people like this is always difficult.
”It happened with [Takuma] Sato in Bahrain, it happened to me in Imola and here as well. We risk our lives at circuits like this and it’s difficult to race with people like that.”
Alonso, who claimed his maiden victory in Hungary last year, hailed the performance of teammate Trulli after the Italian ended his search for a win with a masterful drive around the difficult streets of the principality.
”I have to congratulate Jarno and the team for the win,” he added. ”We really worked hard in the winter, and this is the first reward.” — Sapa-AFP
