The example of the United Kingdom suggests the South African construction sector could improve its performance, Public Works minister Stella Sigcau said on Friday.
She was meeting her UK counterpart, Nigel Griffiths, at the House of Commons on the first leg of her two-country tour which will end in China.
Although the construction sector in the United Kingdom faced similar difficulties to South Africa’s, it contributed 4% more to the economy, Sigcau said.
”This poses a challenge to the South African construction sector to improve its performance and labour practices.”
Griffiths welcomed Sigcau, saying South Africa was a ”spectacular success story”.
”The UK remains the biggest investor in South Africa, which shows the confidence that it has in the leadership of South Africa.”
Sigcau will leave London for Beijing on Saturday. -‒ Sapa
