British tourist couple feared hijacked

A British couple has been reported missing in the Transkei region of the Eastern Cape and relatives fear they may have been hijacked, radio station Algoa FM News reported on Friday.

Matthew James Henderson (34) and his wife, Daphne (30), were last heard of on Saturday.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the disappearance.

A relative, Nico du Plooy, said the Hendersons phoned someone daily to report on their progress, the station said.

On Saturday they said they were going to watch rugby on television at a venue in Port St John’s on the Wild Coast. They have not been heard of since.

Du Plooy said their vehicle’s tracker system has also not been emitting a signal since the weekend.

They were driving in a white Isuzu 3,2-litre double cab with the registration NGL 1574.
