Luck of the draw for Soweto clubs

Two of Soweto’s big three clubs, Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows, will enjoy home-ground advantage against Black Leopards and Ajax Cape Town when the journey to the final of the SAA Supa 8 Cup begins on August 14.

The Pretoria-based Supersport United and Wits University of Gauteng were also fortunate to win home-ground games at the draw in Kyalami on Monday.

United will host Santos of Cape Town and Wits will entertain Orlando Pirates. The Students’ clash against the Buccaneers is scheduled for August 14 and United and Santos will meet the following day.

The Castle Premiership champions, Chiefs, and the Limpopo-based Leopards will clash on August 21. Swallows, who are still on a high after winning the Absa Cup championship, will take on the Urban Warriors on August 22.

The final of this popular competition will be on October 2.

All the eight super clubs booked their boarding passes to the R1,3-million cup competition by finishing in the top eight of the Castle Premiership table.

Jomo Cosmos, who flew away with the trophy last year after beating Swallows, will not defend their cup because they finished out of the qualifying bracket.

The eight participating clubs used the launch to showcase their newly designed jerseys that will be used for the competition.

While the winner will walk away with R1,3-million, the runners-up will pocket a whopping R750 000. Third and fourth position will take home R430 000 each.

All the eight clubs are guaranteed R220 000 each for their participation in the SAA Supa 8 competition.

Kick-off time for all these matches will be 3.15pm. — Sapa
