A second arms cache has been found in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature building at Ulundi, the province’s safety and liaison minister Bheki Cele said on Wednesday.
An intensive search was under way at the legislature buildings on Wednesday morning, after police found a second arms cache there on Tuesday.
The latest discovery came when police were searching the building in their campaign against illegal weapons in the province, said Cele in a statement.
They found a box of ammunition in one of the offices. The cache included a pipe bomb, four cleaning rods for a shot gun, and various sorts of ammunition.
”We will leave no stone unturned to find the owners of these weapons of war,” said Cele.
Last Thursday a cleaner found eight pipe bombs, one M-36 hand grenade and an unidentified bomb in one of the legislature’s storerooms.
”The discovery of the weapons were a cause for concern because the building has been hosting high profile people in the country, including the deputy president and that police could not found these weapons when they were conducting their routine inspections,” said Cele.
His spokesperson, Mawande Jubasi, said: ”Only administrative staff work in the Ulundi legislature building because all parliamentary sittings now take place in Pietermaritzburg, but they have not been asked to leave the building.” – Sapa
