Women’s Cup of Nations draw in Jo’burg

The Confederation of African Football has announced that the draw for the fourth women’s version of the African Cup of Nations will take place in Johannesburg on August 19.

Tournament coordinator Sipho Nkumane said eight countries, including the hosts South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, will battle it out for top honours.

The tournament will be played in Johannesburg and Soweto from September 18 to October 2, at the Johannesburg and Orlando stadiums.

Banyana Banyana and defending champions Nigeria have been seeded to lead Group A and B. The participating countries will be divided into two groups of four each.

South Africa qualified automatically for the finals by virtue of being the hosts, while the other seven countries were involved in qualifying matches. — Sapa
