Bangladesh blast kills seven, injures many

Seven people were killed and 70 to 80 injured on Saturday when a series of bombs ripped through an opposition party rally in the Bangladesh capital, an Awami League party official said.

”Seven people have been killed. Between 70 and 80 have been injured,” Razia Mostafa, a senior party official, said at a nearby medical college hospital where the wounded were being treated.

The explosions at the rally attended by party leader Sheikh Hasina Wajed sent people scattering in panic and a number of vehicles and some buildings were on fire.

The blasts occurred after the party leader delivered a speech outside the party’s Dhaka headquarters.

”Sheikh Hasina has been very slightly injured in the legs although she is completely out of danger,” she said. — Sapa-AFP
