Acsa eyes Indian airports

The Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) has expressed an interest in participating in the privatisation of India’s two largest airports and the board is studying the details of the project, Acsa MD Monhla Hlahla said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the release of Acsa’s financial results for the year ended March 31 2004, Hlahla said the project is still in its early stages, but that an expression of interest has been made.

“The process will develop as more details become available,” she said.

India is to sell about 49% of the New Delhi and Mumbai airports to foreign investors. Recent media reports have suggested that 10 global consortia have put in their bids for the projects and that five bidders are likely to be shortlisted soon.

It has also been reported that the Indian government plans to complete the privatisation process by December. — I-Net Bridge
