Ten local councillors from various parties crossed over to the Freedom Front Plus within hours of the floor-crossing window period coming into effect, party leader Pieter Mulder said on Wednesday.

Included in the crossings was former chairperson of the New National Party caucus Wrentia Landman, who now becomes the FF+’s first and only member of the Tshwane council.

Defections in the Mookgophong (Naboomspruit), Limpopo, town council has led to the FF+ becoming the official opposition in that region.

”We are expecting a lot more people coming, especially from the Democratic Alliance and the NNP, before the end of the window period,” Mulder said.

Piet Uys, FF+ secretary general, and the person responsible for floor-crossing paperwork said confidently on Wednesday that the party has had no deserters and it does not expect any either. — Sapa
