The World Bank has approved $257-million for programmes aimed at reducing poverty and improving the road network in Uganda, the bank said in a statement on Monday.
”The World Bank approved an International Development Association grant of $150-million to improve welfare and advance the poverty-reduction initiatives of the government of Uganda,” the statement said.
Another ”amount of $107,6-million — $67,6-million in the form of a credit and $40-million in the form of a grant — in support of efforts to strengthen [the] road sector has been approved,” the statement added.
”The project will help rehabilitate or upgrade a total of 830km of national roads, and improve or rehabilitate 1 300km of district roads,” the statement added. — Sapa-AFP
