Cops find R8m worth of Mandrax in Kensington

Police found thousands of Mandrax tablets, and materials for manufacturing the drug, when they raided a house in Kensington in Johannesburg on Monday, said police spokesperson Superintendent Chris Wilken.

Police followed a tip-off and kept the house under observation. Eventually they entered the premises to find about 10 000 Mandrax tablets, 40 or 50kg of powder, and 12 big drums full of chemicals used to manufacture the drug.

No one was in the house at the time of the raid and no arrests were made, said Wilken.

He said forensic experts were on the scene, and had estimated the value of the drugs to be around R8-million.

Investigations were continuing, said Wilken. – Sapa
