The Border Bulldogs continued their triumphant march in the Currie Cup first division with a convincing 49-31 win over the Griffons at a wet Absa Stadium on Friday night.
Constant drizzle fell throughout, but both teams nevertheless endeavoured to play constructive rugby.
The Bulldogs were well in control in the first half getting in for five tries, two going to centre Adam Robertson. The Griffons replied with three penalties to trail 34-9 at the break.
While the Bulldogs were always in front, the Griffons, well led by captain and eighthman Schalk de Klerk, played a much better second half through their forwards and were rewarded with four tries, two going to De Klerk.
The best try of the match went to Bulldogs’ left wing and also man of the match Akona Ndungane following a storming upfield run by flanker Marcel van der Walt. Three other players handled before Ndungane was sent over in the corner to score his third try.
Both teams picked up a bonus point.
