A serial killer who chopped up one of his nine victims and boiled the body parts to cover up the evidence has been sentenced to death at a Chinese court, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday.
In a country gradually growing accustomed to grisly murder cases, 37-year-old Tu Guiwu, who was condemned at a court in southwestern Chengdu city, has attracted particular notoriety for his actions.
In April 1998, Tu stabbed a friend of his dozens of times, sawed up the corpse, boiled the head and hands and threw the body parts into a lake in an attempt to get rid of the physical evidence, Xinhua said.
Xinhua said he committed the murder because his friend owed him money and had embarrassed him in front of other acquaintances.
Tu’s eight other murders were spurred by a mixture of motives.
Xinhua talked to Tu on death row and encountered a man who showed little remorse or feeling in general.
Tu said he had been upset after committing his murders, but usually managed to soothe his nerves by watching TV or playing computer games. – Sapa-AFP
