Nigeria international goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has escaped unhurt from a car crash that killed two passengers and severely injured a third.
Enyeama suffered only bruises after the car somersaulted twice as it swerved to avoid a motor bike.
”I’m lucky to be alive,” said a shaken Enyeama, who was on his way to his hometown, Uyo in southern Nigeria, after playing in a CAF Champions League match for holders Enyimba against Bakili Bullets in Malawi.
There are concerns he might miss the semifinal first leg of the Champions League against Esperance of Tunisia at the end of the month in Aba.
”Let us see what the doctors say. Esperance are a very strong team and we have to be at our best to win the tie, and I am prepared to fight to be fit in time for the match,” he said.
The 22-year-old has been the country’s first choice since the 2002 World Cup, where he posted a clean sheet in the group match against England.
He was voted the best goalkeeper at the African Nations Cup in Tunisia in February. — Sapa-AFP
