Supersport march on to quarterfinals

SuperSport United are through to the quarterfinals of the Coca-Cola Cup competition after their convincing 4-1 drubbing over Bush Bucks at Loftus stadium on Sunday.

Tsweu Mokoro opened the floodgates in the 10th minute and slid home a pass from Dikgang Mabalane. Goalkeeper Calvin Marlin passed straight to Mabalane, who crossed to Mokoro and the dreadlocked foward made sure against Bucks goalkeeper Jacob Mokhasi.

Abram Raselemane increased their tally six minutes later and Edward Williams made it 3-0 with a shot from outside the penalty area in the 43rd minute.

United became complacent and were punished in the second stanza. Agent Sawu reduced Bucks’ deficit in the 51st minute and they were unlucky when Papi Mbele’s goal was disallowed in the 39th minute.

A shot from Dumisani Mpofu was blocked by Marlin, and Mbele pounced on the loose ball to blast home a beauty. It is unclear why his goal was disallowed, as he could not have been adjudged to be off-side because the ball came off the keeper.

United, who missed an avalanche of clear-cut chances, got their act together again and raided the Bucks area and Raselemane confirmed his brace in the 74th minute when he slotted home a superb shot with time to pick his spot. Mokhasi dived full-length, but was unable to save.

Raselemane was back in the thick of things but he missed a sitter in the 81st minute and coach Pitso ”Jingles” Mosimane replaced him with Dane Klate two minutes later.

Mokoro failed to confirm his brace after rounding off Mokhasi towards the end of an absorbing game.

Bucks also had their moments, but they lacked composure inside the box, which robbed them of a number of opportunities to reduce the deficit.

All five goals scored from this encounter in front of the paltry crowd meant R50 000 in the bag for six orphanages that were selected by the sponsors. – Sapa
