Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger ruled out England defender Sol Campbell and Brazil midfielder Edu from Tuesday’s Champions League match against Greek giants Panathinaikos.
Both Campbell, who missed Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Southampton, and Edu are suffering from calf injuries.
However, Spanish striker Jose Antonio Reyes — who sustained a hand injury against the Saints — is expected to be fit for the match at Arsenal’s Highbury home in north London.
Meanwhile, the Premier League champions’ other Brazil midfielder, Gilberto — already out for six weeks because of an injury to one of his vertebrae — is set to be sidelined for a further six weeks.
”Reyes still has a small problem with his hand but he should be okay,” Wenger told a press conference Monday at the Premier League leaders’ training ground.
”Edu has a kick on his calf and it will be two or three days for him.
”Sol Campbell sees a specialist today to see if we can push him on or not. He will certainly be out until the weekend and the earliest he will be back is Tottenham,” Wenger added.
”Gilberto is six weeks out now and when he comes back he will need another six weeks. So it will not be before three months in total,” the Frenchman explained. — Sapa-AFP
