Bush Bucks earn valuable point

Bush Bucks got a valuable point in their one-all draw with Ajax Cape Town in their Castle Premiership game played at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.

Both teams performed far better when they were playing into a strong south-easter.

The visitors were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty in the first minute when Moeneeb Josephs brought down Taya Mrewa in the box, but the referee waved play on.

Ajax, playing against the wind, were far better and opened the score in the 12th minute with a clever one-two between Wilfred Mugeyi and Nhlanhla Tshabalala, which saw the latter score easily.

In the 22nd minute, Grant Igesund’s powerful shot was brilliantly saved by Tambunga Dikete diving to his right.

Josephs also brought off an excellent save from Agent Sawu in the 34th minute. Five minutes later Sawu broke through again and, with only the goalkeeper to beat, shot wide.

The visitors played far better in the second half whereas Ajax fell to pieces and the excellent short passing that they showed in the first half disappeared.

Bucks equalised in the 78th minute when a cross came over from the right and Josephs hesitated to come out. Nzumani Mgwigwi headed the ball, which hit the underside of the crossbar and went in. — Sapa
