A second bouncer has been arrested in connection with the beating up of a student outside a Johannesburg nightclub last weekend, Johannesburg police said on Friday.
Kevin Hoffmeyer (20) was granted R2 000 bail in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning shortly after his arrest, police spokesperson Sergeant Sanku Tsunke said.
Earlier this week, Ashley Ginder (29) appeared in court in connection with allegedly beating up Bradley Silberman at the Tiger Tiger nightclub in Rivonia on Saturday.
Ginder was released on R10 000 bail on condition he reports to the Randburg police on Fridays and that he does not contact any of the state’s witnesses. His passport has been confiscated by the police.
The charge sheet has not yet been finalised, but Ginder has provisionally been charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Silberman was in a serious condition in hospital after undergoing brain surgery following the assault outside the nightclub.
Ginder allegedly hit Silberman with a fist, after which the young man fell and hit his head against a kerbstone.
Hoffmeyer allegedly assaulted one of Silberman’s friends.
Both Hoffmeyer and Ginder will reappear in court on December 15. — Sapa
