Ricardo Katza’s lone header was enough to propel Supersport United into the semifinals of the Coca-Cola Cup in a match against Jomo Cosmos at the Loftus Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday.
Captain Katza headed home from a corner kick taken by youngster Tony Tsabedze in the 34th minute and the visitors never recovered as they were bundled out of the competition. They have featured in two finals.
Both sides missed chances, which could easily have turned the game into a high scoring affair.
For Cosmos, the main culprits were Russell Mwafulirwa and Helton Cunha who failed to punish the United defence.
In the 15th minute, Mwafulirwa failed to beat United’s keeper Calvin Marlin by blasting his shot over the crossbar. Minutes later, it was Cunha’s turn as he took on one defender too many, allowing Siboniso Gaxa time to recover and clear the ball.
United also had their share of missed chances. Abram Raselemane, Tsweu Mokoro and Tsabedze were the main culprits, but luckily for them, Katza used his one chance to save the day. – Sapa
