Barloword Hyster lands R90m US contract

Barloworld Handling — a division of South African diversified brands group Barloworld — has secured an agreement worth more than R90-million to supply Hyster equipment and services to Beaulieu of America, one of the largest carpet manufacturers in the United States.

Beating three rival bids for the business, Barloworld Handling has been contracted to replace 415 lift trucks with new and used lift trucks, personnel carriers and floor-maintenance equipment over a five-year period.

Barloworld will also provide Total Solutions Fleet maintenance for more than 550 units of materials-handling equipment.

Deliveries have already started.

Barloworld CEO Tony Phillips said the contract is significant, and is another example of the company’s total solutions approach.

“Beaulieu’s diverse requirements dovetailed perfectly with Barloworld Handling’s ability to provide a wide range of products, superior back-up support and our full financing facility available through Barloworld Fleet Leasing.

“Our reputation, financial strength and our ability to add value to the customer were all significant factors in separating us from our competitors,” he added.

Aaron Phillips, project engineer for Beaulieu, said: “By striking a good balance between new and proven technology, the Hyster product line offered superior value to our company. The thoroughness of Barloworld’s assessment of our needs gave us a high level of confidence in the company.”

Barloworld Handling, a division of Barloworld Industrial Distribution, is one of the world’s largest independent lift-truck dealers, and features Hyster fork lifts and a variety of speciality equipment, ranging from Capacity and JLG to Rail King and Sellick among the many available leading brands.

Handling operates in eight south-eastern states in the United States, Belgium, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom, as well as in South Africa. — I-Net Bridge
