Supersport, Stars play to draw

Supersport United were held to a 0-0 draw by Silver Stars in a Premier Soccer League encounter at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night.

Stars threatened first through Solomon Mathe early on, but United’s Calvin Marlin reacted well to clear the danger.

Marlin was tested again in the 28th minute when he stretched to full length to deny Mathe, who struck from close range, and minutes later denied Leonard Casner’s curling slice from a set-piece.

United had a good chance to open the score in the 39th minute when Ricardo Katza’s close-range header went wide of the target from Richard Rantjie’s cross.

Just before the break, United launched a quick attack through Rantjie on the right side of the field before he sent a good cross to Manuel Bucuane, whose header could not find the target.

In the second half, United had their best effort hit the cross-bar in the 50th minute after a scramble in the box and had another cleared on the line by Oscar Ntwagae.

Stars all but wrapped the game up with a few minutes remaining but substitute Koketso Mmotong misdirected his shot wide of the target with only Marlin to beat. — Sapa
