Listed black economic empowerment (BEE) fishing, medical equipment and information technology (IT) group Sekunjalo Investments has acquired 81,56% of the entire issued capital in the computer company Synergy Computing.
The acquisition of Synergy boosts Sekunjalo’s strategic growth in its IT portfolio, the companies announced on Monday.
Founded in 1978, Synergy Computing is one of the leading South African software solutions companies functioning in the arena of business intelligence solutions and corporate solutions management.
The transaction is a major step in terms of BEE in the IT industry and has exceeded by far the requirements of the ICT Charter and Black Economic Empowerment Act.
Synergy is well established as an end-to-end business-intelligence solutions implementer providing fast and easy access to critical corporate data. The company leverages corporate performance management benefits from best-of breed productions from leading global vendors including Cognos (Synergy, a Cognos Distributor since 1980, maintains the largest installed base of Cognos customers in Africa), Microsoft Oracle, Sane Solutions and Idu Software.
In doing so, Synergy has empowered thousands of management users to make better, more informed decisions, thereby increasing their organisation’s productivity and profitability. Synergy has a current customer base of 350 active blue-chip corporate and government customers.
With the recent acquisition of Sunstone Business Solutions, Synergy has reinforced its position as Southern Africa’s foremost solution provider in this field. Synergy also provides a comprehensive range of professional services, including on-site project consulting, technical support and ISETT-approved training.
Commenting on the transaction, Andrew Connold, MD of Synergy computing, said that he is excited in the change of shareholding with Sekunjalo, as it positions Synergy to meet all empowerment credentials of the ICT Charter and satisfies its blue-chip clients in the public and private sector.
Connold added that he is particularly excited with the opportunity and relationship that will allow Synergy and Sekunjalo to develop an integrated IT platform to add value to public-sector management and the government, to achieve the government’s drive to improve the efficiency and service delivery of the public sector.
The acquisition creates the opportunity for closer cooperation between Synergy and Sekunjalo’s Health Systems Technologies, for whom Synergy provides business-intelligence reporting and analysis solutions on top of their Clinicom Patient Information System, currently installed at Groote Schuur, Tygerberg, Red Cross and a number of other provincial hospitals in the Western Cape.
Both Sekunjalo and Synergy are excited about unlocking opportunities that will present themselves in the future and to identify further acquisitions to build up the IT portfolio. — I-Net Bridge
