Chiefs’ birthday boy brings in the goals

Defending champions Kaizer Chiefs moved into second place in the Castle Premiership when they defeated Black Leopards 3-0 in their Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixture played at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.

Chiefs led 1-0 at half-time.

There were plenty of celebrations afterwards for birthday boy Collins Mbesuma, who celebrated his 21st birthday in style after the game in which he scored the opening two goals for Amakhosi. The classy Zambian striker now has 13 goals under his belt and is the PSL leading goal scorer.

Amakhosi have now sent out a warning to log leaders Orlando Pirates that they are not going to give up the title without a big fight.

Chiefs are seven points behind their deadly rivals and have two matches in hand. Mbesuma could have doubled his tally as Chiefs strolled to an easy win. Gert Schalkwyk was also guilty of wasting an easy chance to put Chiefs further ahead when he missed a sitter in the second half.

Mbesuma opened the scoring in the 26th minute to put Chiefs into the lead. The home side never looked back and on the hour mark Mbesuma made it 2-0 and set Chiefs on to the victory path.

Gerald Sibeko added the final goal 10 minutes from time to give Chiefs their comfortable 3-0. — Sapa
