Kruger Park game ranger killed by elephant

A game ranger was attacked and killed by an elephant in the Kruger Park, a park spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Lance Corporal Wilson Ndlovu was conducting a routine patrol on Tuesday morning through the Stolznek area in the south of the park, said Raymond Travers, spokesperson for the park.

Ndlovu and his colleague were cycling through an area with very tall grass, and did not see an elephant herd close by, Travers said.

They were attacked at the same time by two elephant cows. The other ranger escaped, but Ndlovu was killed.

Ndlovu (whose name means elephant) had been a ranger in the park for 30 years, Travers said.

He and his three brothers had all been employees of the park at some stage. – Sapa
